How much on average does a new bathroom cost including shower and bath?

A new bathroom including a shower and bath can cost from a few hundred pounds to several thousand pounds, depending on the quality of the fittings and whether you undertake the work yourself.

A new bathroom can be an easy way to create a lovely new space in your home as well as adding value to your property. However, the cost of refitting your bathroom can be high. Channel 4 estimates that a new bathroom costs £1,300 if you undertake the work yourself whilst it may cost up to £3,250 if you employ a professional.

Consumer champion Which? says ‘the cost of a new bathroom can vary enormously. The average bathroom costs around £3,000, but costs can vary from a few hundred pounds to tens of thousands for an all-singing, all-dancing large bathroom with luxury fittings.’

New bathroom suites including a shower, bath, toilet and sink can be purchased from DIY stores for as little as a few hundred pounds. However, higher quality suites with a power shower may cost several thousand pounds, particularly if you have them fitted by experts. You also need to decide whether you want to install a mixer tap/shower or a standalone electric shower unit.

It is easy to get a great new look in your bathroom without spending a fortune on a refit, according to TV property guru Phil Spencer. For under £500 you can install a power shower and shower screen, replace your taps and add a heated chrome towel rail.

Whilst a new bathroom creates a lovely space for you and your family, it can also increase the value and saleability of your home. Spencer believes that a new bathroom adds 2.88 per cent onto the value of your home, whilst the Independent reports that ‘countless surveys have found that simply revamping it [the bathroom] can add up to 20 per cent to the value of your property.’
